I used to not get the craze with smoothies. I was always wondering how people just drank something for a meal, asking myself, "How can that be filling?" and "Aren't they hungry?" Turns out, I was doing smoothies all wrong. This tahini, raw cacao and almond milk smoothie tastes like dessert but is packed with greens and superfoods to sustain you for the long haul. It is one of my favorite things to have for breakfast or lunch. It really does fill you up thanks to the thick and creamy texture you get from adding frozen bananas. For all the details, see below:

Ingredients Needed:

1 - 2 large bananas, frozen (Remember this is a full meal. Some people get turned off by using so much banana, but I tend to feel best eating a high-carb, raw vegan diet for most of the day. If you want to use less banana, do so, but it will not be as thick and creamy.)

1/2 cup of almond milk (I use homemade, but feel free to substitute another non-dairy milk)

1 large fistful of greens (spinach, chard, kale, etc)

1 tablespoon each of tahini, raw cacao (you can sub cocoa powder) and hemp protein powder (Optional, you can also use chia seeds, flax seeds, maca powder, etc)

1 small pinch of cinnamon

A bit of sweetener to taste (I use about 5 drops of liquid stevia, but you can also use a teaspoon of maple syrup, agave, honey, etc)

To Make:

If you have a powerful blender, dump it all in and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass jar to serve.

If your blender is less than powerful, first blend the greens and half of the almond milk. Once the greens are in tiny pieces, add the frozen banana and a splash more of almond milk. Blend this mixture until thick and creamy -- it will look like ice cream. Lastly, add the remaining ingredients and blend until combined. Pour into a glass jar to serve.
