TWO FAB FINDS FOR SUMMER: COOLA MINERAL SUNSCREEN AND PRODUCE BAGS

Sunscreens that aren't loaded with toxic chemicals are often hard to find, especially in Istanbul. A few months ago, a friend turned me on to Coola Mineral Sunscreen -- a natural and organic sunscreen brand. The line has a range of products to protect your body, face and lips from sun damage -- and it uses minerals, organic oils, antioxidants and repairing extracts to do it. No parabens or preservatives. I tried this brand in the US, but much to my surprise and absolute elation, the product is now available in Turkey! You can order most of the products from Botanik Ecza, but my favorite product is the Mineral Face Sunscreen with Rose Essence. It is water resistant for up to 40 minutes and uses organic acai oil (good for fighting the signs of aging) organic sunflower seed oil (to promote elasticity) and organic linseed oil, which reduces redness and irritation. With the weather heating up, it is the perfect time to give these more natural sunscreens a try. However, remember, to prevent sun damage, you should wear sunscreen year-round!

The next product I found is a little less glamorous but totally practical. I just came across Samantha Lea, who lives in Istanbul and makes reusable produce bags. If you read my old post about reducing plastic consumption in Istanbul, you know I always use my own produce bags. Mine are nylon and I bought them from the US.
